I enjoy the breeding side more than the showing side of the hobby, so I breed my birds all year round.

Therefore, it would be ignorant of me to overlook any safe form of medication to prevent and protect my birds from diseases that could potentially kill them.

I personally think any medication that makes budgerigars infertile for a month cannot be any good for them, especially as it is made for racing pigeons!

TRICHO PLUS is made for cage birds i.e. budgerigars, canaries and finches.

With a high safety margin it is impossible to overdose and kill your birds or babies - which to me is a common sense product that does the job ....... SAFELY!

I do not like to put anything in my birds water. I use a product called Diatomaceous Earth - it's a fine powder used for insect control, it's natural and does not harm the birds.

I put it on the soft food and sprinkle on the birds with good results. Give it a try - I like health foods.

I have used CHEVI COl for a number of years without ill effect.

It should only be used outside the breeding season as the uptake of water is significantly higher when breeding and should only be used for 5 days.

Medication of any sort should never ever be used on birds that are breeding.

Where can I get this product - living in Denmark - do you have an address?

sincerely.
Leif Biegel

Budgerigar.co.uk says: Leif, for Chevi-Col simply search for it using Google - there are many websites selling it. For Tricho Plus, try the Oropharma website at www.oropharma.com. They are based in Belgium. The specific page for Tricho Plus is: here.

Hi folks,

I was very suprised that somebody as experienced as Daniel would take a chance with his preventative medicine routine. I would like to add there is a superb product on the market which I use to prevent trichomonosis and other related diseases.

The product I use is called Tricho Plus from a company called Oropharma which is a sister company to Versele-Laga.

I have used this product for 5 years now and I have never had a bird with trichomonosis. It is administered at 1 teaspoon to 2 litres of drinking water and this is done over 7 days.

I would like to point out that this product is 100% safe to use whether your birds are breeding or have youngsters in the boxes it is safe to use. I repeat this procedure every 6 months as a preventative.

It usually costs around £25 for a 200g tub, which is a small price to pay to keep a stud of budgerigars disease free. I would endorse this product fully.
